Vancouver Island Conference Centre Selected for National Conference
(Nanaimo, British Columbia) – Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons – Escadrilles
Canadiennes de Plaisance (CPS-ECP), head office Toronto, has chosen the Vancouver Island Conference
Centre (VICC) as the location for its 2010 National Conference and Annual General Meeting.
Susan Loveless, Chairperson for the CPS- ECP 2010 Conference stated, “The CPS-ECP Conference and AGM is held in different locations across Canada each year and the Vancouver Island Conference Centre was the obvious choice for 2010. We are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase our city to the CPS- ECP members from across the country. This new state-of-the-art conference centre has drawn
significant attention to Nanaimo and to this region of Vancouver Island.”
CPS- ECP is a national volunteer driven organization of boating enthusiasts with a long standing reputation for
offering high-quality education and producing safety publications and numerous other resources for its
members. In 69 years, it continues to grow and now has a membership of over 30,000 from 173 squadrons
across Canada. CPS- ECP is the established leader for the training of recreational boaters across the country working co-operatively with Transport Canada, Industry Canada, Fisheries and Oceans, Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary and many other organizations involved in safe boating.
The 4 day, 400 member event is expected to generate over half a million dollars directly into the local economy
with the added benefit of introducing recreational boaters from across the country to everything Nanaimo has to offer as a boating destination.
“It is exciting to have a national conference booked for our facility,” said Jim Owens, Director of Sales and
Marketing for Vancouver Island Conference Centre. “Many national associations are based in Ottawa which is one of our main target markets and its wonderful to see that the booking of CPS- ECP has put Nanaimo’s ‘Vancouver Island Conference Centre’, on the map for national conferences.”
“We are spreading the word that we are open for business in Nanaimo and the conference industry, coast to coast, is taking notice.”
