VICC’s Sales/Marketing Director Heads East
(Nanaimo, British Columbia) – Jim Owens, Vancouver Island Conference Centre’s (VICC) Director of Sales and Marketing departed today from Nanaimo’s Airport on a sales blitz to over 200 Associations and Corporate offices in Ottawa.
“I am heading to Ottawa to meet with the people who have the ‘say’ as to the location of their next
conference or major meeting. We want that decision to be the Vancouver Island Conference Centre - here
in Nanaimo,” stated Owens.
Owens will also host a VICC reception and presentation in Ottawa on June 21st. “VICC will host over sixty
key association executives and corporate decision makers. These are the people who decide the venues
and destinations for future national conferences and meetings.”
“Our reception will profile the best of Nanaimo and Vancouver Island to Ottawa. Our menu for the
reception will showcase the quality and diversity of our West Coast seafood --- and our guests just may
get a chance to sample our famous mainstay the ‘Nanaimo Bar’.”
“Our presentation that evening will focus on promoting the Vancouver Island Conference Centre as one of
Canada's premier convention and meeting venues and Nanaimo as a preferred conference destination,”
said Owens.
Jim Owens was sent on his way with good wishes and support from Marilyn Hutchinson (City of Nanaimo
Economic Development Office), Jennifer Ford (Destination Marketing Coordinator with the City of
Nanaimo) and Mike Hooper (President/CEO of the Nanaimo Airport).
“We are beginning to see the benefits of our efforts to bring local and national conferences to our city,”
stated Ms. Hutchison. “Jim’s visit to Ottawa will no doubt be well received and we look forward to
securing future national conferences and meetings here in Nanaimo.”
