Vancouver Island Conference Centre Confirms Another Major Provincial Conference for September 2008
(Nanaimo, British Columbia) – The Municipal Information Systems Association – BC (MISA-BC) has confirmed Nanaimo’s Vancouver Island Conference Centre as the location for their 2008 conference.
The conference for approximately 300 attendees from municipalities throughout the province will take
place September 23 to 26 – 2008 and will feature keynote speaker - David Suzuki whose address to the
conference participants will be on Green Technology.
Per Kristensen, MISA-BC 2008 conference chair, commented: “My position as Chief Technology Officer
with the City of Nanaimo put me in the perfect position to recommend Nanaimo’s new conference centre
as the location for our 2008 conference. We will have the opportunity to showcase our ‘state-of-the-art’
facility as it relates to the latest in information technology. I am honored to be able to host this event here
in Nanaimo for my colleagues.”
An important factor for MISA-BC in choosing Nanaimo’s new facility was the availability of vendor exhibit
space. “The Vancouver Island Conference Centre is one of the few venues in Canada to provide meeting
facilities as well as space to showcase exhibits,” stated Jim Owens, Director of Sales and Marketing for
VICC.
“We are in the enviable position of not only providing a new, modern facility with state-of-the-art
technology but also 38,000 sq. feet of some of the most flexible, functional, versatile meeting space in
Canada.”
Owens went on to say, “As one of the first conferences confirmed for our new facility, it is important for us
to showcase the best we have to offer. The Municipal Information Systems Association-BC conference will inject approximately $400,000 dollars directly into the Nanaimo economy over the four days of the conference.”
“We have no doubt that the delegates will be impressed with our facility and our city,” commented Per
Kristensen.
