Vancouver Island Conference Centre

The Vancouver Island Conference Centre is now less than six months from completion and bookings for conferences and major events are already numbering well over 60 up to the year 2012.

Located in beautiful Nanaimo British Columbia, the Vancouver Island Conference Centre is the flagship of the new Port of Nanaimo Centre which also encompasses the Nanaimo Museum, 200-seat Shaw Auditorium, the Port Theatre, fifteen thousand square feet of street level retail space and 2 levels of underground parking.

The Centre will open in June of 2008 in historic downtown Nanaimo, just steps from the Nanaimo harbour front and seaside walkway. From immediately outside the front entrance, visitors and conference goers can visit patio cafes and shops and experience the old-city charm of downtown Nanaimo and the beauty of the Nanaimo harbour.

Jim Owens, Director of Sales and Marketing states, “One of the best things about the Vancouver Island Conference Centre is the location. With a local airport, 2 easily accessed peripheral airports, seaplane access and ferry service - Nanaimo is one of the most accessible, prime convention and event destinations in the Pacific Northwest. The Vancouver Island Conference Centre’s location in downtown Nanaimo couldn’t be more ideal.”

From Nanaimo, delegates can easily make their way to many unique destinations on Vancouver Island for the day. From world class golf at numerous local courses to skiing Mount Washington or surfing on Long Beach, all are within reach from Nanaimo’s central location. For delegates who wish to visit closer destinations, the famous Pickle Boats are waiting to deliver visitors to historic Newcastle Island in the Nanaimo Harbour. The possibilities are endless!

Inside the new facility the list of impressive features continues. The Vancouver Island Conference Centre will support groups of up to 1300 for theatre style function or stand up receptions in the nearly fourteen thousand square foot, divisible ballroom. Within the 38,000 square feet of flexible, functional convention and meeting space, there are a total of 9 multipurpose meeting rooms, all with large windows providing natural light and full audio/visual capabilities.

As Canada’s newest full-service, first-class facility, the Vancouver Island Conference Centre will boast a superior list of amenities and features. From full wireless access and digital way-finding to outstanding global broadcast capabilities, the Vancouver Island Conference Centre will provide conference goers with one of the most advanced audio, video and control system in all of Western Canada.

“Conference goers will be amazed by the seamless integration of technology into the design of the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. From the technology necessary to facilitate ‘Green Meetings’ to the ability to effortlessly teleconference with delegates located all over the world, we have done our best to create a unique and memorable experience for every visitor to the Vancouver Island Conference Centre,” stated Mr. Owens.

As a leader in the revitalization of Downtown Nanaimo, the Vancouver Island Conference Centre will continue to directly benefit the Nanaimo community. From business and professional development to tourism revenues, the completed conference centre will deliver tremendous economic benefits to the entire community through non-resident delegate spending.

Conference guests and local residents alike will benefit from the many local businesses in the Nanaimo area that have intentionally relocated toward Nanaimo’s downtown core to service the conference centre’s delegates, attendees and guests. Restaurants, coffee bars, galleries, home furnishing boutiques, spas and salons, men’s and women’s clothing stores, convention and event ancillary services are just a few of the direct benefactors. The Vancouver Island Conference Centre has become the spark for economic revitalisation of the Nanaimo Downtown and, ultimately, it is the entire community that is showing the benefits.

From the spectacular location and rich history of the area to the superior amenities and features, the Vancouver Island Conference Centre is a “must see” for anyone planning or contemplating a meeting, conference, trade show or major event.
